Profiling five EFL targets

A data driven view, profiling five players which could be on the move to and around the EFL.

Ruben Rodriguez is a name often thrown around the National League for being the most talented player in the division. The Portuguese forward registered 19 goals this season and will likely be in demand this summer. Rodriguez admitted in October that an unnamed League One club placed a bid for him last summer but County told them he was not for sale. Following another impressive campaign and after another failed promotion push, County could be tempted to sell with just one year left on his deal. It’s likely Notts would accept a bid of around £200,000. I’d like to see Derby or Morecambe make a move – if Cole Stockton departs. Kyle Wootton is another player I think could attract interest.

Gavin Kilkenny is undoubtedly a talented player with him tipped to play Premier League football in his career. Unfortunately his appearances for Bournemouth were limited last season and following The Cherries’ promotion a loan deal for the Irish man looks likely. A talented player that could push into most Championship sides, Hull City and Middlesbrough are currently leading the run in.

Eiran Cashin is another Irishman I expect there to be interest in, the 20 year old is out of contract this summer and following an impressive season in The Championship, I’d be surprised to see him renew his contract at Derby – who have been relegated to League One. He was part of a Derby defence that kept five clean sheets in 14 starts. Burnley are expecting the departure of Ben Mee and James Tarkowski this summer, so I expect them to be seeking a bargain.

Alfie Rutherford is a name that may ring a bell, despite playing in National League South – because of the ‘Bunch of Amateurs’ YouTube series. The Rutherford striker has scored an unbelievable 32 goals in 37 appearances – at just 23 years old he’s undoubtedly worth a gamble for a team in the EFL.
